Postdoctoral Scholar Position at Prof. Geoffrey Smith’s Lab

Introduction
Geoffrey L. Smith (a Fellow of the Royal Society, UK, and Leopoldina, the German National Academy of Sciences) is an internationally renowned virologist. He has conducted fundamental research on poxviruses including their replication, spread and immune evasion mechanisms. In addition, he pioneered the use of vaccinia virus as an expression vector and demonstrated that live recombinant viruses could be used as live vaccines against a wide range of infectious diseases. His team have published their work in top-tier international academic journals such as Nature, Science, and Cell, and are widely cited. Furthermore, Smith is a contributor to the authoritative virology textbook “Fields Virology” and is a leading academic figure in the field.

Geoffrey L. Smith joined the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 2025. He leads a team studying poxvirus immune evasion and developing vaccines and is chief scientist within a new vaccine research centre. With ample research funding, well-equipped and refurbished labs, and a stimulating and international scientific environment, we sincerely invite outstanding graduates and young scholars to join us!
